Developing Quantum-Resistant Identification Documents

The future of digital identity: developing quantum-resistant credentials

The advent of quantum computing poses a fundamental security risk to current encryption algorithms. While artificial intelligence is transforming how we process data, the quantum revolution will fundamentally change how we must protect it. The objective of our research is the proactive preparation and practical implementation of Quantum-Resistant Identification Documents.

Why is preparing for the quantum era essential today?

Most of today’s security standards rely on mathematical problems that are unsolvable for classical computers. However, quantum computers will be able to overcome them in a matter of seconds.

Protection against future threats: Adversaries may collect and store sensitive data today, intending to decrypt it the moment sufficient quantum power becomes available.
Icon
Identity lifecycle: Identification documents and certificates issued today must remain secure throughout their entire validity period, which often exceeds ten years.
Icon
Data decryption risk: We must ensure that your identity and finances remain secure even when today’s encryption standards become easily breakable.

In collaboration with our primary partner, the Brno University of Technology (VUT), we are testing the limits of new cryptographic procedures. Our goal is to implement solutions that guarantee the security of personal data even in the era of future quantum threats.

“The rise of quantum technologies will impact global security much more profoundly than AI. It is a silent revolution. Our task is to ensure that your identity and assets remain secure even when today’s encryption standards become obsolete.”

What specifically are we working on?

The project outcomes focus on three key areas:

Icon
Post-Quantum Document: A new card data structure (ICAO and SIGN profiles) that enables secure digital signatures resistant to quantum attacks.
Icon
Post-Quantum Certificate Authority: Development of an authority capable of issuing both hybrid and purely quantum-resistant certificates in compliance with the strictest security policies.
Icon
Solutions for Post-Quantum Signatures and Physical Access Control: Applications for creating PQC signatures and systems for physical access to facilities based on data verification from these modern credentials.

Funding

The project succeeded in the grant call „Aplikace – vývoj digitálních řešení – výzva II“ under OP TAK program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Czech Republic (Aplikace – vývoj digitálních řešení).
It is scheduled for implementation until June 2027.
