Anton\u00edn Vychodil\u2019<\/a><\/strong>s journey into IT has been anything but traditional. Originally from the United States, he moved to the Czech Republic for university and unexpectedly found his way into software development.<\/p>\n

“I was born in the Philippines and raised in the U.S., but my father is Czech and my mother Filipino. I came here for university because I wanted to try something new\u2014I had never lived abroad before. At first, it was exciting to finally meet my Czech family, but I wasn\u2019t sure if I would stay permanently. Now, after three years, I feel much more at home.”<\/i><\/p>\n

From Robotics to Software Engineering<\/b><\/p>\n

Anton\u00edn\u2019s academic background is in robotics, but his career took a different turn.<\/p>\n

“I actually study robotics at the Faculty of Informatics, but I got into software development thanks to my friends. One of them, Hamma, convinced me to start learning Java on my own. I took a lot of online courses, and eventually, I got an internship at Monet+.”<\/i><\/p>\n

At first, it was just about learning and improving, but over time, Anton\u00edn took on more responsibility.<\/p>\n

“I started with maintenance tasks\u2014fixing bugs, making small changes\u2014but now I work on much bigger projects. One of my recent projects is called API Channels, which helps process financial transactions by integrating external data. Another project I\u2019m working on is a currency conversion system. It feels great to see my work making an impact.”<\/i><\/p>\n

The Team Culture at Monet+<\/b><\/p>\n

For Anton\u00edn, the technical challenges are only part of what makes Monet+ a great place to work.<\/p>\n

“One thing I really love about our team is the atmosphere. We always eat lunch together, joke around, and even do small team-building activities, like playing card games at the pub. It really feels like a community.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Even though he is the only foreigner on his team, he has never felt out of place.<\/p>\n

“At first, it was funny\u2014on my first day, my team leader introduced me like: \u2018This is Anton\u00edn Vychodil. He\u2019s American. He doesn\u2019t speak Czech.\u2019 But honestly, everyone here speaks great English, and I\u2019ve never felt excluded.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Adapting to Life in the Czech Republic<\/b><\/p>\n

Moving from the U.S. to the Czech Republic came with some surprises.<\/p>\n

“There was definitely some culture shock! The biggest difference? People don\u2019t smile as much here. In the U.S., it\u2019s normal to greet people with \u2018Hi, how are you?\u2019\u2014but in the Czech Republic, people just look at you like, \u2018Why are you talking to me?\u2019 It took some time to get used to.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Driving habits were another adjustment.<\/p>\n

“Czech drivers are much more aggressive than in the U.S. Back home, the roads are wider, and people drive more relaxed. Here, it feels like everyone is in a rush!”<\/i><\/p>\n

But despite the differences, Anton\u00edn has grown to appreciate life in Zl\u00edn.<\/p>\n

“At first, I thought Zl\u00edn was a bit boring and small, especially coming straight from the U.S. But now, I really like how chill it is. Plus, having my family here helps a lot\u2014my parents actually moved here eight months ago.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Advice for Future Candidates<\/b><\/p>\n

For those thinking about joining Monet+, Anton\u00edn has some simple advice:<\/p>\n

“Just go for it! Study programming\u2014especially Java if you want to join my team\u2014but also be open-minded and friendly. Don\u2019t be shy. Monet+ has a great atmosphere, and you\u2019ll definitely feel welcome.”<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
